David Bowie was an influential British singer, songwriter, and actor, and an icon of pop culture. A leading figure in the music industry, Bowie was known for continually reinventing himself over the course of his career and for his incorporation of art and design into his career. Bowie achieved incredible success in the glam scene of the early 1970s before before helping to define the sound of the New Romantics in the 1980s. Bowie's career pushed the boundaries of what it meant to be a rock icon, as well as what it meant to be a human.

I chose to paint David Bowie because I wanted to paint someone that I both admired, and who carried a positive message. Bowie's legacy of acceptance has never been more timely. For my tribute to David Bowie, I recreated an iconic photo from the Diamond Dogs sessions, with a reference to Aladdin Sane. These two albums had a significant impact on my personal development as an artist, and I think for a lot of fans as well.

I chose to paint Bowie as a wolf because he was undoubtedly the 'Leader of the Pack' no matter where he went, or what he did, pushing social norms forward every day. It was a challenge to incorporate the visual elements from so many sources, but I'm very happy with the result and response.
